Fire Drill

What would you take with you if your house were burning? I’m really enthralled with this idea, and the site called The Burning House. I’m finding it particularly poignant since I’m packing up all of our belongings in preparation for our move in a few weeks. As I pack I ask myself, what would I really want to save if I only had a few minutes?

I’m realizing that I haven’t really had many “wants” lately. And I’m thinking it’s because moving has acted as seriously effective cure for my normal list of wants. The thought of having to pack anything is a major deterrent to my even looking at stuff.  However, I’m finding myself drawn to these perfectly organic wood, and wood like, objects as of late. Maybe it’s because I wish I was hiking in the woods, or that I love wood and wood grain anything, or that maybe I wish that I lived in the woods and all my belongings fit neatly in a knapsack…

Weekend Scenes

The weekend was saturated with food and family, it literally flew by.  The clouds were kind enough to stay away and we had the most beautiful spring Saturday, filled with walks, open windows and most of the day light hours spent out-of-doors.  I did devote some time to making two quiches for Easter brunch, using a basic recipe from Mark Bittman’s “How to Cook Everything”, adding my own flavor preferences, sharp cheddar/cayenne and carmelized sweet onion/thyme/sharp cheddar. They turned out super yummy and we even had a few pieces left over for lunch today, to remind us of the weekend, mmmm.

Hope your week is perfectly delicious!

The Creative Wagon

I apologize for the lack of posts but I had a run-in with unmotivated, uninspired me over the weekend. I’m blaming it on allergies and low vitamin D. However, the sun was out today, the sky a glorious blue, and it was a perfect pick me up for a Tuesday, or any day really.  Kim and I have planned an “art day” for this Thursday, plus we’ve been discussing a lot of ideas, to get us back on the creative wagon – making skirts for spring and summer, re-fashioning and sprucing up a few jackets from winter for spring, watercolor painting and just general inspiration and incentive  has been on our minds. I try not to force it but sometimes you need a little push to get the creative gears moving again. I am finding comfort in the feeling that it’s turning into spring, a time for renewal and refreshment after a long winter’s nap.

On that note,  here are two fun projects that I spotted and added to my must try DIY project list – I can’t wait to try them this spring!

These Poloroid magnets and this typographic paper marquee lamp.

Cheers and hope the rest of the week ahead is a wonderfully creative one!

A friend recently pointed out to me, in jest, that I tend to post a lot of things ” I want”.  So, I thought I would tell you why I post things I want, love and like. My “wants” are more inspiration than intention to procure and by posting and sharing them it’s merely a catalog of things, a catalog of nice things to gaze at and draw inspiration from.  Plus, I intend to give you a case of the wants as well – there are so many creative people hocking thier wares on the interweb!  I’m not a materialistic person, but I’m no minimalist either. I can by no means afford all of the things I might necessarily want, nor do I have the space if I purchased all the things I liked, loved or wanted.  One thing I know I don’t want, is my own episode of Hoarders.  However, I do have a penchant for lovely things and there’s no harm in looking and being inspired, right!?  These wants are usually totally random, in no particular order and for no particular reason but they do sometimes come in handy when I’m looking for a gift.  On that note, here are my weekly wants on a Wednesday.

And finally, if I were an outfit this would be me – from J.Crew’s Fall collection sneak peek.

I’m having focus issues today, which I’m attributing to the  road construction noise,  accompanied by a general overall vibration, that started early this morning outside our place – not the most desired sound or feeling to wake up to.  My computer is also giving me some difficulties so I’m taking it as a sign that today is just one of those days, I shouldn’t force it. I have been daydreaming about spring, spurred by my visit to the farmers market this weekend, and my favorite trees in full blossom. Spring really can’t come soon enough but I do feel it’s right around the corner!

I’ll be back tomorrow with my posts, maybe my computer just needs a nap, like me.  However, I do hope your week is starting out on a good note!
